To be “transracial" is to disregard the permeated reality of racial oppression.

For a person of color to “switch races,” it is to disregard the histories of your ancestors, to take someone else’s struggles and claim it as your own: i.e. to appropriate their struggles, their realities. It is it to take a life that you did not lead.

For a white person to “switch races,” it is to disregard the privileges of whiteness, and to claim victimhood from an oppression that their in-group caused. They avoid taking accountability.
